The Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) has said that the national football team has been suspended due to weak performance in recent international competitions.
A statement released by AFF said the decision was taken following weak performance by national team, specifically the under-23 football team.
The under-23 national football team lost all matches against Bangladesh, Hong Kong and Uzbekistan in 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
AFF head coach, Mohammad Yousuf Kargar said players of the national team have been suspended from today and the new will be formed after reviewing the trainings and performance of the players.
Kargar further added that contracts will be signed with the new players who joins the national team after an agreement with the conditions of the national team.
He said the decision was taken to prepare the Afghan team for the upcoming matches against well organized teams such as Iran, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
This comes as Afghanistan Football Federation earlier said that they want the Afghan team to qualify for 2022 FIFA world Cup which is due to be organized in Qatar.
AFF said key reforms programs were considered by the football federation to achieve the goal, including hiring of new players.
